Where the battery market in the Netherlands is really moving!
The Netherlands now has hundreds of installed business batteries, ranging from 0.1 MWh to more than 100 MWh. In our database, we have now collected over 500 projects, accounting for approximately 1.5 GWh+ of installed capacity. And also more than >15 GWh of serious announced projects.
What stands out?
- Grid congestion is by far the most common reason for purchasing a battery, measured by the number of projects.
- Additionally, other motives play a role, such as storing sustainable energy, trading on the balancing market, or other strategic reasons. These motives vary by customer sector.
- When we look at the number of suppliers, dealers, distributors, and installers, the market is growing enormously; there are now more than hundreds.
- The top five battery manufacturers come from China, the US, and South Korea and together supply more than 50% of the installed capacity.
Although the market already seems substantial, we are only at the beginning. On both the supply and demand sides, we see positive trends that will translate into growth by 2025. However, compared to the countries around us, there are still many opportunities to accelerate battery storage.
